Cysts

Cysts are closed pockets within the body, containing pus or tissue.  These are non-cancerous tumors that feel smooth beneath the skin and move freely when pressed.  Cysts are usually painless, but can become painful if they rupture, become inflamed or become infected.

While cysts often go away on their own, some types can be carefully removed surgically.  Cysts will reoccur if not completely removed, which is often the case when one is squeezed and the discharge is forced out.  Other types of cysts respond to antibiotic treatments.

Cysts can be caused by severe acne, clogged hair follicle or infection.  Patients from Franklin Square, Valley Stream, West Hempstead, Malverne, Lynbrook, Elmont, and Garden City come to Kushner Dermatology for help with cysts.
